Art_in_wisconsin
June 8 - 24, 2012 Reception Friday, June 8, 2012 5-9:00PM
Seven sculptors will be exhibiting their installed sculptures of scale at Cardinal Stritch University as well as models representing their most recent sculptural explorations. They are Bilhenry Walker, Bruce Niemi, Mark Overs, Nathan Hatch, Richard Taylor, Ruth Aizuss Migdal, & Steve Fischer. This is a seminal opportunity to view the monumental sculptures created by these sculptors and view where their vision has taken them.

Claire Odishoo, curator of the Northwestern Gallery at Cardinal Stritch, has been gradually building up the collection of monumental sculptures around the Fine Arts Building over the last five years. The collection now contains ten sculptures, eight of which were created by Wisconsin sculptors and represents the largest collection of monumental sculptures by Wisconsin sculptors in the United States.

These sculptors all work in metal, including aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel, cor-ten steel, and bronze. Although each has their own esthetic they all agree on the importance of permanence in the objects they make whether large or small. The process of building these objects is both labor intensive and expensive and bespeaks their idealism and dedication to the ultimate goal of making significant contemporary sculpture.

The opening will be accompanied by live music and refreshments
