Oil on canvas, 9" x 14" Most often I paint the things I know but which remain mysterious. I have little interest in the pastoral; rather, I am searching for images that require something of the viewer. Usually a vague idea inspires me to begin work. The notion of a visual or mental template is a recurring theme. These templates seem to be integral to how we process information and experience the world. They may be as simple as basic form, shape and color, or as complex as the collective and personal experiences that define our lives. I am also interested in what is beautiful. Often what moves the eye engages the imagination. |
