About WVA

Wisconsin Visual Artists (WVA) is a not-for-profit membership-based organization made up of visual artists working in a wide variety of media and supporters of Wisconsin Art. We are united to advance opportunities and services for artists and the general public, and are committed to the importance and value of art and its creation in our society.

The purpose of the WVA is to promote, develop and encourage the creative visual arts in Wisconsin. To that end we: hold periodic exhibitions inside and outside of Wisconsin and internationally; exert influence toward the purchase of meritorious works of art by the state, municipalities or other civic and business organizations; provide lectures, educational programs and seminars for our artist membership, which are open to the public; produce and publish the WVA magazine quarterly, maintain a comprehensive website, and organize and publish portfolios for libraries and art collections promoting the arts of Wisconsin; make international opportunities for Wisconsin visual artists and in general to do whatever may be proper to further the purposes of the organization under Wisconsin non-stock corporation law, Chapter 181 of the Wisconsin statutes.

The WVA membership is divided into three chapters: Southeast (SE) in the Milwaukee area; South Central (SC) in the Madison area; and Northeast (NE) in the Appleton/Green Bay area. Each chapter is organized to have revolving term elections for President, Vice-president, Treasurer, Secretary and other offices such as Membership chair, Program chair, and Exhibitions chair. This allows WVA members to play more active roles in networking with artists within their chapters and promoting their events throughout the state and beyond. WVA also has a State Board of Directors, which is comprised of at least 2-3 members from each chapter and includes the current WVA Chapter Presidents. The primary and most visible duty of the State board is to help all the chapters communicate, network and promote the visual arts in Wisconsin through the WVA magazine (published four times each year) and through the WVA website.
